Do you sometimes wonder if there is really any story there?

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by Katherine Melmore, Apr 11, 2014.

    I have written a 10 minute play
i am in the early stages of editing (so it's a rough draft really)

I have reminiscing and imaginings - that isn't really a story

I've seen stories about loss but the key was the frame round it

this seems to be just the imaginings from it

is that a story at all?

Have you asked other people (that is, people whose opinion you trust) to read your play? That's probably the easiest way to tell if the play has enough interesting elements to keep the attention of readers/the audience.

As long as you have anything--anything at all--getting from one point to another, you have a story. Whether or not it is good or interesting is another matter.

How can you create images without having a subject of the images? Is it all symbolic? I never, and I mean never, start writing anything until I have a purpose and the ending already planned out. What were you thinking about before you started writing? What was your inspiration? Whatever that was, has to be your story.
