:D yeah, make us suffer (joking) :D by the way, there is a great book on language creation for fiction by Holly Lisle, it's called The Language Clinic or something like that.

Will you post the piece with Russian in it here? Very curious to read :)

So this is another thread where the OP already had his mind made up and asked the question anyway?

I'll quote myself (in advance) as regards use of funky made-up languages. :bigwink:

I always think it's better to just give it to the reader in English when in dialogue and explain through narrative that it's in another Language. That's just my opinion on this most jaded of topics. When you make me read High Quarkanese, what I get is this:

Sarah knew she was in the trouble from the start. Kelemek's bristles were raised and his bochcaboo was opaque. Never a good sign.

"Xxxxxx xx xxxxx xx xxxxxx," said Sarah, trying to assuage his anger.

"XXXXX!! XXXX!! XX! XXX!" Kelemek was having none of it.

Xxxx xx xxxx xx xx, Sarah thought to herself. But what's a girl to do
    ?

There are plenty who will disagree with me, but I'm not licensed to give their opinions. Just my own. :bigwink:

@BayView, look what you did to Cave :D he'll be communicating in binary from now on :D

Still, even if Cave Troll decides to use all the Russian in this story, maybe the comments people left will help him when writing other stories.

And as usual with non-English text, I'm not going to take the trouble to figure it out - I'm just going to stop reading. Life is too short.

I Love it--I read a book once that was a twist on fairy tales. One of the characters only spoke in binary!!!
I wish I could remember the title, but it was about a detective and there was some crime involving the Burin family; Ursula, her husband Major, and their cub, Baby.

I'm glad you took all our feedback into consideration. I think it has a huge impact on the story and is a great plot device.

@BayView Perhaps your sense of humor is broken. :( I respect yours and everyone else's opinion and have come to a reasonable conclusion based upon them. I am sorry your sense of humor is broken. I hope you can forgive me, and my oddity. :D

@KhalieLa That's awesome, I have never heard of anything like that before. :) Will try and look that up in some fashion. (To be fair I cheated, I used a translator for my binary :D). It seemed more feasible than using the Alien language I actually created, seeing as it is far more complex and rather flowery. That and I don't feel like painstakingly drawing all the characters by hand, nor going to far in depth with it. :D

@Steerpike There is not a harsh word in those posts, just copy and paste them over to a Binary to Text translator. :p

It was an audio book and a laughed so hard I nearly wet myself when the author got to the first section of binary. I think using binary for alien languages is a great idea. It has the added benefit of increasing your word count too (very important when being paid by the word!)

    BTW--

@KhalieLa I am not worried about word count. :p That and I did have a fun time creating a new language, but agree with you on both points.
