    I've finished my rough draft

Discussion in 'General Writing' started by BruMeister, Nov 23, 2010.

It's been awhile since I've been to this forum!

Anyway, I've recently finished the rough draft of my story save for the ending (I'm still thumbing through several options). It was about 69,000 before I started to edit it, and it's about 71,000. I do realize it is going to go up and down like a yo-yo, however.

Reading through it again makes me think on numerous occasions, "What the heck was I thinking!" in terms of sentence structure or just a piece of the plot. It's fun changing everything to make it more crisp, but at the same time it's been quite the headache!

Congratulations!!! What kind of novel is it? I'm about to blast out my end-of-NaNoWriMo cramming: I've got 21K so far -- and I hope to be in your position by Christmas break. (I'm thinking my whole novel will be about 80K when it's done. It's a YA dystopia.)

Don't make light of that achievement, it's monumental. Congrats to ya'! My hat is tipped in your general direction.

So when can we expect to see it on shelves?

It's fantasy, and as for the person who asked when it'll be on shelves, I have no clue. I'm only a freshman in college, and I've been putting this story together in my spare time throughout the years. However, now that I'm a Creative Writing major, I should be kicking it into overdrive and putting a more serious effort into this.

Congratulations! on an accomplishment that many don't reach until much later in life. I hope it continues to develop smoothly for you.
