If that's a rule then one of my friends, Scot Cameron must be the exception as he is a really nice bloke.
Blimey, who'd have thought a dig at Dave Cameron would sink so badly. Have I Got News For You is gonna struggle this year...
Touche! Personally, I don't care either way. I think Cameron deserves it. He spent a lot of time, money, and productivity on the film so he should have the satisfaction of getting a second round with it. I never got to see it, so maybe I'll see it this time. If you're really proud of something, you'd definitely show it off as much as you could... as often as you could.
It's clear the re-release in a theaters is the same movie with some added bits. So it's not like the release is deceptive or anything like that. People can make up their own minds about whether to slap another 10 bucks or whatever on the counter. I don't see a problem with it, though I won't go see it again.
Avatar had more cliches than a print factory. Cameron's always been about big budgets, big box office and big effects. I remember one preview program about Titanic back when it was an upcoming movie and all Cameron talked about was how titanic the size of his budget was. Avatar is to sci-fi franchises what Boy Bands are to music: a cynically constructed money machine playing on emotions. Cameron did some pretty good movies before he became utterly insane and declared himself king of the world, though. Gotta give him that.
I actually liked Avatar...alot. And Cameron hasnt disappointed me yet with his films, but this latest re-release represents everything wrong with the world these days... I guess when you make movies like Titanic that gross over a billion worldwide you go a little bit mad hatter. Mr. Cameon has gotten the hollywood sickness, that is all. Give him a deacde and he'll do to the future Avatar franchise (he's talking about sequels) what Lucas did to Star Wars
So did I, he knows how to make a good film and he has a gift for the epic which alot of directors are poor at.
If Avatar costed a tenth of its budget, i'm sure we wouldnt be having this conversation. He released it at the worst time possible too.
Huh? You think he's rereleasing it because it didn't make enough money? It was the highest grossing film of all time. The budget was around $240m, which is gargantuan yes, but it grossed more than ten times that.
This is becoming a dangerous trend. Anyone who plays video games will understand a lot of games currently now bring out unfinished games and expect people to download game episodes to complete the story Half Life 2 Alan Wake And I'm sure many more will follow. it pisses gamers off and this SE of Avatar is the same as the above (Sure, the story is complete, but you still have to pay for a little more). This better stop. You used to be able to buy a game for $40AU and see a movie for $5AU and they were 100% complete. Now today, Games cost $120AU and movies can cost $20AU, and not complete. What a load of crap.
Honestly, I have to agree, it's a money thing...Sadly, the only thing Cameron did that dissapointed me is the fact he didn't re-release Titanic!! Yeah, I loved that movie, all 22 times I saw it..hehehe.
Honestly I'm pretty excited for the re-release. Life was too hectic when it was originally released, and I never managed to see it. While I'm skeptical of the whole 3-D phenomenon; a film that makes such good use of it as this I had lamented missing out on. Glad I have a chance to see it in it's proper format now.
For me, the impressive thing about Avatar wasn't the 3D. It was the motion capture, especially the faces and eyes. It's the first time I've seen in which mo-cap characters really looked lifelike. Very impressive!
I agree on the motion capture. Have you seen any of the "making of" vids? He has a special camera he holds in his hands and as he sweeps it across the live action, the monitor he's looking into shows how it looks automatically converted into the movie characters. Truly amazing technology.
Redundant? I agree with Speedy. I hate when I buy a new game for $60.00 and they start coming out with pay-to-play DLC for it. It'd be one thing if the DLC were merely extra features, but if it's because the game was never actually completed, that does kind of piss me off.
