    July Camp NaNo 2016

Discussion in 'NaNoWriMo' started by A.S.Ford, Jun 3, 2016.

So the second (and final) Camp NaNo of 2016 takes place in just under a month ... is anyone else excited for it? Who else is planning on taking up the challenge with me? If so, what project will you be working on?

I've decided to work on extending my dissertation piece into a novel. This should be an interesting challenge, I think, as it is a (potentially) YA novel set in an alternative-historical-post-apocalyptic setting and focuses on the friendship and respect between two girls who are trying to survive in their current post-apocalyptic environment.

Also, me and a writing friend are going to be setting up our own 'private' cabin for Camp NaNo so if you would like to be a part of that rather than a randomised 'public' cabin then please comment to let me know :) ... don't worry if you'd rather be in a public cabin though as we won't mind; just wanted to put the offer out there.

Hi I just signed up for Camp NaNo and I'm not exactly sure how the cabin thing works. I would like to join your cabin if you would let me. I have a goal of being published by the end of the year or at least have my first novel finished by November so I can start my second for the November writing month. I have been apart of NaNo for a few years but I have a fear of writing and I don't think I'm good enough to write. I am thinking to much about the future about the book I haven't written yet. I'm just really worried about rejection so I'm hoping This camp will help me. I would like to make friends and meet people who have the same interest I do so if you would let me I would like to join your cabin.

Hey, I would have replied sooner were it not for the problem with the website, haha. I, too, am hoping to finish a novel this year :) The Camps are similar to NaNo in the sense that you have to try to complete a set word count target within the month, however, the Camps are different because, not only are you put into a group of other writers to support and help each other (known as cabins), you can also make the word count target whatever you need or want it to be. For example, instead of the NaNo's 50,000 word count goal you could have a 10,000 or 80,000 word count target; which makes things a lot less stressful and gives you more control - you can change this goal as many times as you like before the last week (I think) of the month.

Also, don't worry about if you are 'good enough to write' as every writer worries about that and in many ways it can help a writer as most arrogant writers who think they are amazing are really not, haha. I know it's hard (it took me an entire 3-year university degree to do it) but you should try to find a way to ignore that feeling and just write for writing's sake ... you can worry about how 'good' it is during the editing process! Almost everyone I have met on this site wants to find friends and acquaintances with the same interests, and the camps are usually filled with them too, so you are not alone there. I would be happy to have you as part of the cabin :) You will need to add you project onto Camp NaNo (their website has instructions/directions) then give me your (Camp)NaNo name so I can invite you to the cabin.

I can't wait for it to start! Actually, I can, as I haven't completely decided on what my project will be, but I'm still excited! My word count for the April camp was less than spectacular, so I'm hoping to do better this time around :)

Thanks my nano name is lukecage25 same as here. I'm just tired of saying this is the year I write my novel but I never do. I don't want to be a 60 year old man and look back and regret not doing it. I'm afrad to fail but how can I fail if I don't even try. What genre is your novel.

Just invited you to the cabin :) I know how you feel ... it's why I took up the chance to do my undergraduate degree in Creative Writing (though it focused more on writing short stories since they are smaller pieces to work with) but I still have trouble staying motivated to write. I haven't written anything for my novel since April despite hoping to write a chapter a week (perhaps a bit too ambitious for my busy mind, haha). My novel kind of sits between a few genres: alternative history/fiction, historical fiction, and post-apocalyptic ... what about yours?

Oooh i totally forgot about Camp NaNo, only, I don't have a current WIP aside from the contest entry, so unless I type up one of my hand written WIP's i'm kinda done for

You never know, another idea might come to you before July or you may get inspiration from one of your other 'hand written WIP's' or you could even edit an old one :)

If you decide to take on the challenge though let me know if you would like to be part of me and my friend's cabin (see original post)

    I could give it a go. :p
Not sure if I will make it or not, but I will try with my sequel novel (already have approx. 35.5k), so at least reaching to 50k won't be the hard part. But the editing part is the hard part.
One question: Where does one sign up for this challenge? Thanks. :)

    You're welcome!

If you are interested, as posted in my original post for this thread, me and my friend are creating our own 'cabin' (a virtual/online group of other writers doing the challenge for support) so if you decide to take on the Camp NaNo challenge and would like to be a part of our cabin then let me know :) - if you decide to do the challenge but dont want to be part of our cabin then that is okay too (obviously) and instead the site will place you in a cabin of randomly chosen writers if that's what you would prefer; or you could even create your own cabin.

I'm excited too :) I was so close to finishing my target goal in April but became really ill during the last week or two which completely ruined my progress streak so i am hoping to do better this time as, to date, i have never completed a NaNo or Camp NaNo challenge :( I wish you good luck for this upcoming Camp!!

If you would like to be part of me and my friend's private cabin then let me know and if not, then i hope you end up with a good cabin :)

I'm going to be trying my hardest to take part in this year's camp, though due to issues with housing I'm not sure if I'll reach the target goal or not.

My goal isn't to complete any specific project, but instead to just get the 50,000 words written. I don't write that often or write to a schedule, and that's something I'd like to work on changing. My current plan is to spend June writing down ideas for scenes, characters, and worlds that I've wanted to write about but never had enough stuff to make a full story out of, and then to use those as writing prompts each day.

Best of luck to everyone else taking part!

Awesome :) you will need to sign up on the Camp's website at: http://campnanowrimo.org/ then 'create' a project (you have to do this to be put into cabins so if you don't have one yet just put 'untitled' and any old word count goal until you have figured out what you are doing, haha). Once you have done that then let me know what your Camp NaNo profile name is and I will invite you into the cabin :)

I'm already in a cabin, but I'm excited about working on a story I started for NaNo a number of years ago. I'm spending this month doing outline work (which I hate, but is going surprisingly well for this story) and figuring out who the bad guys are and why. Been mind mapping and thinking about that that and have come up with some ideas, as well as more scenes for the story.

Sounds like you are ready to get writing, haha! I need to get back into being so organised but I have enjoyed my time away from my Camp NaNo plans to soak up the rich inspiration of the hills and countryside of the Welsh border ... getting back into my routine will be difficult though. Good luck this Camp and enjoy your cabin :)
