Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by BG_Hambone, Nov 2, 2008.

I am from Indiana. Please no corn jokes.

At the time of this post, I am 19 years old. I am a college student to be I don't know what yet.

I am in love with the girl who saved my life.

I write extremely short stories, usually no more than 5 pages hand-written. they usually center on two young people in love, and more often than not, the protagonists face some sort of devastation.

I am currently working two projects outside of school, A full-length novel entitled "No Direction" and a compilation of my short stories that is untitled at this time.

I hope to get honest feedback and be able to help my fellow literary artists with my observations.

Hello B. G., Welcome to the Writing Forums.

It does sound like good material for a short story.

However, posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

I must begin by saying that I have loved this girl for many years now, and we have been friends since third grade. but that's not the story:

it was senior year. (i will replace her real name with....oh, lets say Rochelle) Rochelle was driving me home from a HS football game, which is about the only thing to do in this pathetic town, when a car from the oncoming lane crossed over. Rochelle couldn't stop in time, and the other car wound up hitting our rear quarterpanel. Our car spun into a telephone pole, which impacted my side. I lost consiousness at this point, Im told.

Apparently, I stopped breathing and my heart stopped (this is what she told me later), so she literally kept me alive by perfroming CPR until the ambulance arrived.

I wound up with a broken nose, a cracked skull, and one hell of a concussion and spent 24 hours in the hospital. Amazingly, Rochelle walked away unscathed.

I will take this opportunity to note that Rochelle is getting married on Dec. 20th of this year. Her soon-to-be-husband is a good friend of mine.

    So that is the story.
    any questions?

Edit: So the fact that you love her, and that she saved your life are two completely unrelated pieces of information which you grouped together just to be melodramatic, or...?

I had no intention of being melodramatic. I grouped these things together because, to me, they are connected. I dont really know how to explain it.
