Just like to do writing in my spare time as a stress reliever

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by creativevomit, Dec 21, 2012.

Hi my name is Luke, and I am a 17 year old male. I'm a senior in high school, and also go to college part time.
I have been writing since I was around 12 years old. I've never been very good at it it and have trashed most of my work. I just write for fun and as a nice stress reliever. Recently I've started on a neat little project that may end up turning into a novel of sorts eventually if I stick to it. I joined this forum to read up on some of your guys' stuff for inspiration, and eventually put up some of my stuff for critique. I've been getting a lot better at my writing recently and would love to get some criticism from people that are much better at it than I.

I ADORE your avatar!!! What an adorable bouncing sheep :D I do happen to have a cuddly toy that, though brown in colour, looks much the same as that avatar - it's just as round xD

Thanks :D The Japanese do come up with some of the best and cutest things! I've been wondering about changing my avatar though - I've had this one ever since I started on this forum, and as you can see, that's quite a while now.

So what is it that you write?

I write kind of...oddly. I kind of just start writing novels but don't finish. I don't like writing short stories because I can never get all my thoughts out that I want to. I will write like 5 chapters of something, then scrap and and move on. I don't really consider myself a writer, because I haven't ever really finished anything. I don't set out to finish my projects, I plan on ending them unfinished.

That is for the most part. I do have two projects that I have stuck with for a while and do plan on finishing. One I started about a year back and is called "Chronicles of Adam". It is an apocalyptic zombie story from the perspective a man name Adam.

The second one I started probably about 5 years ago, and have recently completely scrapped it to start over. It is called "Just Larry". It is growing and I am not sure what it would be classified as. A modern day fantasy with science fiction maybe.

Why do you never finish and even intend for it to be that way? As for the title "writer" - I wouldn't worry about that right now. I didn't start calling myself a writer until I embarked on my first novel 2 years ago :) I never write short stories either - I'm far too long-winded for that haha!

    Just Larry sounds kinda interesting!

well I say I started about 5 years ago. But my writing was very very poor at that age. Only recently have I produced any work that I considered acceptable to continue with. I'd like to share some of my stuff whenever I have met sufficient requirements. If you are interested in reading my teaser for "Just Larry" I have my website listed in my profile.

    Welcome!

I'm sure you will find this forum to be helpful in many aspects. You need not worry about your level of writing. There are some very professional writers on here right down to people that don't know English. Cudoos to you for looking to improve. Just remember the only way to get better is to keep writing. :)

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Luke!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
