spam report all or just some

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by flipflop, Jul 3, 2011.

im currently doing my bit by reporting spam that i have found

my question is do i report every post that is spam or just one per thread or one per spam bot found

keep up the good work mods :)

also if we see dodgy users eg user name "topfacebookgames" where do we report them

I'm not a mod but I'd guess just report an obvious spammer once and the moderators will handle it. To be honest, it's unlikely you'll even see spam very often. They're pretty vigilant about giving them the boot around here.

Edit. Just done some lurking and it looks like others are mentioning lots of spammers of late. Are you guys using stopforumspam?

The reports that are most useful are spammers we are likely to overlook - the spam post buried in a game thread, or the almost sensible looking post with a link to "nike shoes cialis gay porn video game cheats" concealed within it.

Hi flipflop, in general I'd say report a spammer once, since I tend to remove all a spammers posts in one go when dealing with them. But it won't do any harm if you do report multiple posts by the same spammer.

As far as reporting spammers -

Please do so, it helps. As Cogito said, the ones that should be reported are the ones that are easiest to overlook - burried threads, old threads, spam blogs, or clever/discreet spam posts.

You only need to report a spammer once if the thread has more than one spam post. The whole thread will get canned.

Moreover, you do not necessary have to report the same spammer more than once on different threads - there is an option to delete all posts/threads by a member when it's marked as spam.

It is very important that whether or not you report apam, DO NOT reply to it!

By replying, you add to the cleanup work, or even propagate it by quoting it. When we remove the spammers' posts, the replies often remain for others to see.

The same goes for obnoxious ir inappropriate posts. Report, but do NOT reply.
