hi so I just can't help but wonder if anyone else here has wondered whether there are famous writers here amongst us. Lurking about forums giving awesome advice and generally keeping a low profile. And we could be interacting with them daily for all we know. We wouldn't ever find out. Until they post something like: "Mornin' everyone. So I was thinking of writing a sequel to a book. -vaguely describes famous plot- Any suggestions?" And everyone will go: "OMFGGG IT WAS ______ ALL ALONG" and "CAN I HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH PLS YES SIGN A PIECE OF NEWSPAPER AND MAIL IT OVER" or "I WANT YOUR COFFEE CUP" or -POINTS AT SCREEN AND SPAZZES HYSTERICALLY- Ever wondered? >:3
I have wondered, but then again, what are the chances of said famous author ever revealing themselves? Just keep writing; you might be a famous author yourself one day. - J.K. Rowling
I've heard rumors, but I don't give them much credence. If any have dropped in on us, I suspect they didn't even create an account.
i can't imagine any famous authors wanting to spend time on writing sites and i've not seen any posts here in all the years i've been posting daily that seemed even remotely likely to be written by one...
There certainly could be famous writers posting on WF. For all you know, it could be a member claiming to be a law student in Pennsylvania. You know, I wonder how many of us would keep posting here if we became famous writers.
Good question. I suppose it depends on our individual reasons for being here now, in addition to learning. Then again, learning is a lifelong pursuit. Why would a famous author hang around here? If he or she has the humility to remember what it was like to be a writer starting out; if he or she has not grown so arrogant as to believe himself or herself "better" than those unspoiled new writers.
There's also the definition of what constitutes "famous." Is it John Grisham or Stephen King type famous? Or Janet Evanovich/Lee Child/Gillian Flynn? What about authors who have 5-7 successful traditionally published books, but aren't household names? What if they have two published books? One?
since I've only been here [and the other 2 sites I post on daily] in order to be helpful to new writers, in the first place, I can't see myself stopping just because I became famous... though that's not likely in this lifetime, since I'm pretty much at the end of it, so haven't much time left for that to happen...
I totally would do this if I was a famous author, but I think that's the definition of 'too much free time' - something a lot of professional authors certainly don't have.
I would because I have gained enormous insights here and made what I consider to be some very good friends (even with those with whom my exchanges have sometimes been contentious). How could I not?
That would be great actually. If they were lurking here, perhaps the bestseller lists wouldn't be full of garbage.
If I was successful that would be me. The idea of fame scares me. Just look on tv how much celebrity's get picked apart.
