    MY SILENCE
    By Mckk

    Silence crashes the party
like a cold bucket of water.
It rings and chimes until you notice,
    turns your head.
    Silence demands to be heard;
    closes over your ears:
    invisible, intangible,
and though you shake your head
    Silence clings,
    Like glue,
    Like sickly honey
    Dripping over your senses.
You can't hear your own voice.
    Silence takes you –
    an absence, a nothing
    that stands where you stood
    claiming to be you,
    And all who walks pass
    glances through empty space,
    Looking for something
    that was.

    Gone
    By Lydia

The last thing to leave was the rattling car-
metal junk clunking as wheels hit the road.
I watched till there was naught to watch anymore

then followed my old feet back inside.

I expected to hear a voice in the room
but even the clock on the wall had given up
and the roses outside, always fully in bloom

now brown and withered, had died.

The wind moved the trees, but it did so unheard
and the old kitchen floor refused to creak.
when a cough left my mouth, it was almost absurd

I silenty let out a sigh.

And I awake at night, with noise all around.
I panic, and with wide open eyes I stare.
But it is dark, and empty, and all I can hear
    is the pounding drums
    from silence’s sound.

Congratulations to you both. These were my favourite two poems of the contest.
