    adventure magazines

Discussion in 'Traditional Publishing' started by fossil, Aug 14, 2008.

    Hello,
New person (I've already introduced myself in the proper areas) here after some information.
I have a hankering to write a series of shortish maritime adventure stories based on one particular character.
I'm currently reading the latest edition of Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and I was wondering if there is a similar type magazine for adventure stories?
Any information would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers
PS - I've probably posted this in the wrong spot, have I?
    :D

Hi fossil. Have you ever visited a site called Ralan's Webstravaganza? It's primarily sci-fi/fantasy markets, but lists many publications and links to guidelines for adventure type stories. Anyway, might want to check it out.

Thanks folks. That's a good start.
I'm mainly interested in checking out some adventure type publications to get a feel for the stories they publish.
    Cheers

Are these "maritime adventures" similar to Clive Cussler (just wondering as I'm a big Cussler fan)?

I've been wonering about this as well (I'm an adventure writer) and was looking for a magazine to attept to publish in. Thanks for the links!

    Hello Scarecrow,
I have to admit I'm not intimately familiar with Clive Cussler's work (popular writer that he is). Doesn't he write 20th century naval type stories? My plan is more based on a South Seas island set up.
Those links are great, aren't they? It's good to know what publishers are looking for so you can mould your work accordingly.
What sort of adventure work do you do?
    Cheers

    Hello again Scarecrow,
I just had a look at Clive Cussler in Wikipedia. His books sound quite interesting actually. I might grab a few and read them.
But my stories don't appear to follow the same theme as Cussler's.
    :)

Most of my writing is action/adventure with historical backrounds, like a literary version of Indiana Jones in a way. If you do get to read any Clive Cussler, my writing is pretty similar to his.

    Adventure magazines?

Theme Park Adventure readers have thrilled to the adventures of staff members Scott and Carol Holmes. Scott and Carol are TPA's very own Dynamic Duo!Adventure was first published in November 1910 as a monthly pulp magazine. In 1912,the magazine's editor from 1911-1927 Arthur Sullivant Hoffman (1876-1966) and his assistant Sinclair Lewis created a popular identity card for its readers.
