May I describe a character here?

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by AlgaeNymph, Sep 19, 2010.

Some writing forums have a subforum for showing off one's character, ostensibly for the sake of concrit. Would Character Development qualify?

To show off a character? No, we have no such forum here. There is no point to it.

Write your character into a story. Until that it has no shape, only (perhaps) a profile, and any critique would be meaningless.

If you want some character input you can PM me.

Here's a tip in advance - don't go with the "character profile" thing where you list out favorite foods/music/bday/eye color/favorite animal/number of siblings/etc. Those things really don't develop your character in a way that's relevant to the story. Sure, there are a few things like that to jot down if they're relevant...but don't waste time on it.

Instead, make a character outline that focuses on things like primary motivation, conflict, goal, method to achieve goal, obstacle, changing points, motivation changes, what causes said changes, how does he/she interact with other characters. That sort of thing. :)
