Need urgent film short plot help

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by pacmansays, Mar 26, 2009.

For my film course I have to make a five minute short and have as much free range as possible with this. I chose to make a Western genre film set in south east london, however I am having trouble creating a plot for this film.

My first idea was about a kid being mugged for his phone, then rallying up his friends and finally scaring them off...however i am having trouble how to show them being rallied together and how they scare them off.

My second idea begins identically with a boy being mugged and a man tracking down these notorious gang and stopping them. However, the plot of this film i cannot come up with beyond the overview i just stated.

Any help with the plot of these 2 films? Or even another one i could use in place of it. I'm also aiming to use minimal to little dialogue

That is really a LOT of help to ask for for an assignment. You really should come up with your own story.

Time constraints are making this hard for me as i have to film this all on sunday

Why so violent? Violent plots are hard to pull off cleanly in only 5 mins.

    I second this.
Perhaps you need to watch some 5min short films to get a feel of how 'plot' can be used in such a short space of time. Adverts are also great at this.

Yeah, humor seems to work better with shorts like that, from what I have seen at least.

Look for car keys --> Fall into dryer --> Discover world full of socks, keys, and scisors.

Try no sound (or) light verbal communication but with lots of physical excitement and exact (as can be) emotional facial expression. Your getting into the edges of the old black and white story times but sometimes it can express more than a lot of words.
