Erm, hi there! Call me Lilith, or anything you like that starts with L, really. I'm 17 from the North of England and I'm a writer, much like everyone else here. I don't pretend to be any good at writing, but I think it's something that more people should do, especially young people. As such, I've set up my own forum to encourage young people to write, although so far it isn't vastly succesful. I've been writing since I was very young, and although it isn't a talent of mine I really feel it's helped me to develop as a person - I've always had difficulties with communication until recent years, and I feel writing helped me out of this problem. I do have a life outside of writing, however; I'm a maths student studying for my A levels and hoping to go to Uni next year. I'm also a dancer, and a violinist, and I've just started learning to play guitar. I can't think of anything else to say... Hi. Happy New Year!
Hello Lilith, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). Wow, you sound like you've got a lot of stuff going on. Writing, dance, violin, math, guitar, university application. I assume A levels are a kind of final exam or something in England? My knowledge is limited to the American system . Sounds like you're a year or two ahead of me--I'm only midway through high school, so I won't be applying for university quite yet. You're also one of the only people here I've seen who's involved in music. I do clarinet and a bit of guitar myself! No violin, though--what's that like? Anyway, welcome!
You do A levels at sixth form when you are 16/17/18, and Aeschylus I didn't know you played the Clarinet I do too. Sorry this is off topic.
