Need to pick your brains, please....

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Trish, Apr 27, 2011.

I make custom cakes out of my house for side money (think Cake Boss, though I'm nowhere near as good as him), so I have to make an "Over The Hill" cake for a catered party on Saturday. It was originally for 50+ but has grown to 100+.

Anyway, the cake is going to be a double sheet cake base with a (very large) round cake on top. The round cake will be divided into wedges (by color and decorating) to look like a board game spinner. It will also have a real spinning spinner suspended above it, from a dowel running through the center.

So the spinner will say, "Mike is older than..." and when you spin it it will land on the wedges that say things like "Dinosaurs", "The Wheel", "Dirt", and "Fire". I'm going to need more....

    Any suggestions????

Methusela? Isn't that the dude in the Bible who lived for a really, really long time? Or you could say Moses...I hear people say "old as Moses" a lot.

You guys are great :D You're helping out a lot! LOVE some of these! I also got:

evolution, glass, gravity, and inflation from someone who PM'd me, which are also awesome :D

Keep em coming. I won't know which ones I can use the best until it's time to put the words on (symmetry and stuff, lol) so I can use all the suggestions I can get :D

Annûniel - LOL, thank you! They don't ship very well, though.

Okay, well it's not the greatest I've ever done, lol. (Partially because the customer called 4 hours before the party and asked me to remove the fondant from the entire bottom layer because apparently her mother in law doesn't like it, so that's why the icing isn't smooth on the bottom -quite hard to repair when you do that- ugh).

Anyway, overall the bottom sheet is 30x26 inches, so it's pretty big lol. Hope I'm allowed to put this pic here like you asked me to, if not, and it gets deleted, I'll put it somewhere else I guess. lol.

Thank you, everyone, for your help :D (And yes I know Moses is nearly unreadable, she was hoping her MIL wouldn't know what it said because she would be offended, lol. Gotta love MIL's!)

That's a great cake, Trish! :) And I imagine moving the fondant from the bottom layer was hard.

I think you're talking about Moses, Pops, if it's the one on the white? She wanted it that way... lol, but she wanted it there.

    Thanks for the compliments :D
