    Sent five submissions

Discussion in 'Traditional Publishing' started by kingzilla, Jun 3, 2012.

I sent five submissions of my best short story to Newyorker, Black Warrior Review, McSweeny's, Triquarterly, and the American scholar. I am really excited and a little nervous, but I hope at least one of the magazines will like my story. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

if you make it into the NY'r you'll be among the uber-elite, as they generally don't take material from new, unknown writers... but there's nothing wrong in reaching for the top... good luck!

Good luck on all them. Did you study the magazines before you sent? BWR usually publishes experimental fiction.

    I wish you well. :)

Keep sending stuff out - it's the only way.

    Good luck.

Two weeks ago I sent a children's picture book story out to nine publishers - three standard rejections slips back so far.

Beginning of this week I've sent an adult short story off to a magazine.

I have only got one rejection so far, two months later. it was because they werent accepting submissions. Other than that, not much activity. Don't know if the wait is a good or bad thing, but I'll assume the latter

    Hi Trilby:

Good luck on those submissions. I started a children's book for toddlers. Just a silly play on words. But, it's the kind of thing I used to say to my grandchildren.

    Thanks, Auntiebetty

Kingzilla - it can take 3-6 months to get a reply from publishers. Good luck!

It's going to take awhile to hear back from these publishers - especially McSweeny's. They seem to take at least 10 months from what I've heard. I've never submitting anything to them personally.
