    The Queen's English Society

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by madhoca, Jun 7, 2010.

Just been reading in The Times newspaper today that:

'An Academy of English is being formed by the Queen’s English Society, to protect the language from impurities, bastardisations and the horrors introduced by the text-speak generation.'

Hey! People like me out there!

I checked out their website (queens english society) and *phew* am greatly relieved to see that English is in safe hands at last.

Seriously, though, there are some pages on e.g. punctuation which people may find useful.

Now all we need is an amalgamation of the Queen's English Society, and the Plain English Campaign, and some sort of new criminal offence for people who misuse apostrophes :p

Absolutely--legislation! Actually...misplacing apostrophes is already a criminal offence in some classrooms...

Anything that puts the brakes on the seemingly unstoppable march of "textspeak" gets my vote.

My pet hate in life is people who connect with me on Facebook via their cellphones and adorn my page with a mish-mash of textspeak. Grrrrrr......
