    Novel outline example

Discussion in 'Publishing' started by Elena, Jul 12, 2010.

    Hey there,

An editor just requested an outline of my novel. Could someone please provide me with an example to let me know if I'm formating it correctly? I'm a computer programmer, so my knee jerk reaction was that the outline would look something like this:

    1) Chapter 1
    a) first thing that happens in chapter 1
    b) second thing that happens in chapter 1
    ...
    2) Chapter 2
    a) you get the idea...

Is this what the editor is expecting? I'm nervous and want to put my best foot forward.

    Thanks,
    Elena.

Apologies if this sounds a little silly, but were you asked for an outline or a synopsis?

if not being confused with a synopsis, what's being asked for is probably a 'chapter outline'...

and that should have only a very brief, thumbnail description of each chapter's main happenings... shuldn't be laid out formally, like an outline for english class, nor does it have to be in formal sentences, either... simplest form is like this:

    and so on...
