    Collaborative Posting

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by colorthemap, Jun 22, 2011.

Could it be possible, in the future, to have multiple people be able to edit the same post.

Say have an option to make an "open post" where everyone (or selected people) can edit it.

What would be the purpose of this?

    what would they be 'editing'?

only the writer of each post has the option of editing it... which is as it should be...

Take some of the character building forums for example.

They get cumbersome if we were all allowed to edit the same post that could be fixed.

I know a wikia that does this for questions and plot wholes in its subject matter(Doctor Who a TV series)

    It would be optional.

If mr.poster and mrs. poster want to write a short story together it is impossible here, so if we could add someone else to editing permissions they could do as such.

It's not imposable, we can write short sotrys together we have colab on here.
I know it would be optnmal but it still would be a pain becuse it only takes one troll to cause one heck of a missunderstanding

Maybe rather than completely open you could have the option of making posts editable by certain people. That way you could do collabs without trolls messing things up. Might take a bit too much work for too little pay off though.

Thats what I'm thinking why would it be worth it?

I mean one or two pepole may do it but then?
and what if someone put something "bad" in the post and then it was edited a few times
can we tell who did it?

Google docs has a shared feature for multiple to collaborate work. The feature could be controlled with allowing whom you would add into the project or not.

Note: I read this as being down about it if not please inore this post
Don't take this hard man, it's just that your idea comes form a wiki (if i read you right)
Wikis are hell to mod becuse of that

and besides that, Iwe are unsure on how much it would be used
and even then you can just "qoute" the last post of the book get rid of the tags and work form there

Cheeper, less chances of trolls, and to top it all of it is alredy here

The only down side is as you said it can get big

But I'd take that over the other idea
not becuse its bad, but ecuse IMO the way we have it now has more pros

I meant that as I didn't really care much for it so we can move on. We already are infected. It does not need to get worse.

Well it would actually be simple to tell if somebody abused it as it would say who it was last edited by. But I agree that it seems fairly pointless and I doubt it would be used much. I mean if you're doing a collab both people would be free to edit the original document and then the one who made the post could edit in the revised version.

I think you missed the part where i said
"It was edited a few times"
so in other words it would not say who did it
    could they still tell then?

We don't encourage collaborative writing. It doesn't do anything to make YOU a better writer, and entering into a collaboration is risky in any case

What you are suggesting may be possible, but would undoubtedly require additional programming at additional cost, with no significant benefit.
