That's anti civil rights. If you don't stand for human rights your not standing for them. Hitler stood for a select German group's rights. Not everyone. And he damaged the rights of others on a large scale. Including mass death.
And yes, there will always be more bad things, including prejudice. But that does not mean we do nothing.

Thank you for that official declaration. Without your guidance how would we possibly know.

And, as a Star Wars fan for over 30 years, yes, it IS mindless entertainment. But that's ok. That's why it's fun.

Sure, but the same can be said og CR groups. Feminists stand for the civil rights of a select group, so did gay marriage supporters and supporters of the black vote.

    Equity, not equality.

Throwing more provocation? You seriously should cool off from these forums, if that is how you act.

Those movements are about equalizing groups that are disadvantaged. This is basic shit. I'm going to leave this. It's sort of off topic and it's sensitive and I have other things.

Actually, proper feminists support equality. Not more rights. Not less rights. The same.

Supporters of gay marriage want the SAME rights. Not more.

I really don't think you actually understand much of what you're going on about.

relax, there's no point getting frustrated by someone who's clearly ignorant but overly arrogant.

Me too. I've used far less foul language here than I normally do so that I don't give a false impression of frustration. So I'm behaving.

Abuse? Mob aggression? Are we reading the same thread? All I've seen is at best mildly irate criticism, but not abuse by any means. It's not like anyone hanging around screaming "YOU RAT-FACED BASTARD!".

I have no idea where this conversation is going. I think we should leave it. Leave the whole blighted thread. We're not even talking about just one thing.

Saying you're not sharp is not abusive. It's merely an insulting opinion. It breaks no rules. It's a little incendiary for the thread but it that's what they want...:meh:

What's with all this bickering? This could have been a really interesting thread but then it went off topic and has descended into an exchange of insults.

They changed the rules a couple of weeks back and you now need a certain number of posts and sufficient days as a member to even read the threads there. As I mentioned in another thread, I don't have anything interesting to say about politics anyway. I'm not sure anyone does.

it can be said that this "forced female character" could have quite as easily been a "forced male character" and in your eyes OP, it seems worse with female characters, because there are fewer of them than there are male characters. and even as a female writer, I find it easier to write male characters, not because I want an easy time, but because to get a good female character it takes a lot more work than a male character can. It might be that the author had an idea in mind that didn't translate well onto the page. there is also an option of trying a book out before you buy/borrow it and if you don't like it you don't have to read/buy it... If I find a male character that boring I tend not to bother either

I agree. Personally I'm a huge fan of female protagonists and generally write them, from dramatic novels to sci-fi action scripts. Both my produced feature films have strong female characters, despite the stories being quite different. One being a detective thriller and the other an artistic exploration of loneliness (it's still in post). The key is to find humanity in the character, strengths and faults and desires and such. I agree that tokenism is annoying, having anything for the sake of it is, but there are plenty of flat and boring male characters who, if you cut their wee wee off, would still be boring as fuck. Men and women share masculine and feminine traits to different degrees, and one can have a different mix of the other. I believe you can swap genders to characters if they are strong enough. I've done it in both directions. That's not to say they all have masculine traits. Some of my men turn quite feminine. But they have deeper motivations, and that is key. Motivation and character. People. Write people.
