    Poetry Contest (23)
    Voting Time

The winner will remain stickied in Poetry for seven days.

Voting will end 31/10/07. You can vote for your own poem, but I only hope that in the name of good sportsmanship you vote for a poem that you have not written and submitted. The decision is entirely up to you.

    Good Luck and happy Voting.

    Gannon - Vice Versa

If black were but a colour and a hue,

a dark perspective and an omen true,

then its white would still be but the contrast:

a sign for the hopeful; how long to last?

Would it not matter for zebra and chess

to be reversed and also vice versa?

But what of a white shadow? A black light?

What therefore, god forbid, if day were night?

    Enter the honest wolf and cue raven;

compare the hero and that unshaven

unspeakable thief with a stolen moon

and its solemn night sky still half star-strewn.

A battle and a victor, a high prize:

the return of black sight to his white eyes.

The dark-hearted scarred raven flees in flight

the proud wolf howls in his eternal night.

    anthrax - Death by raven

By night she took my soul
Surely the sunshine taught her so much more
When I asked her she said it was her goal
My crescent eyes sunk in grief so sour!

O' Angel of Death, your ominous eyes
You remind me of that raven in the sky
Whenever she invades the night the moon dies
And the mountain wolf lets out a sigh

But you never told me you were a fairy of light
And yet managed to deepen my heartbeat
It was just a matter of the night
When I woke up I was scorching in defeat

But my fellow, I surely am that raven
Molten drops of my silk coat poured into my sight
When you took back the moon you were surely mistaken
That I won't be living again and giving you back the plight

We died on the same hill in different summers
My cherry red blood soaking the trees in vendetta
One century later when you saw the stars in clusters
I came back and served you demise like a pancetta

By day when he took back the moon
My saltish eyes whitened to invisiblity
I said I'd take my revenge soon
And I did so with the best of my ability

    mammamaia - Grand Theft: Moon

A raven, fond of bright pretty things,
    stole the moon one night,
    causing everyone on the earth
    to do without its light.

So, Manitou, the head ‘man in blue’
    used his divine right
and ordered a wolf to catch the perp,
    resolve the humans’ plight.

    The mean, black-hearted pilferer
    put up quite a fight,
which is why our now-restored poor moon
    is such a pitted sight.

    poem pedlar - Timeless Circles

Oh! crisp dark night with frost prickled fingers
    icily snapping, biting and chilling
the long waited glow of dawn slowly birthing
of lukewarm tendrils unfurling the light

Oh! buzz and excitement the day marches onward
bathing the gardens in hot healing sun
the parks are soon filling, they sit in the shade
throw sticks for the dog and drink warm lemonade

Oh! cool breeze of evening skimming the clouds
spilling out shadows, teasing the light
it whispers of love and secret embraces
and hums with the perfume of passionate night

...sorry, but the logic here escapes me, torana... would you expect a person running for public office to vote for his/her opponent?... or a miler to let the second place runner slip ahead, when they get to the finish line tape?... or a state lottery winner turn over the winning number to someone else?... all 'in the name of good sportsmanship'?... and would you do all of those things?... if not, why say that?...

...and this is not at all about 'sportsmanship' anyway, but only about comparative excellence in the art of writing... so, why would any of us vote for what we would consider a piece of lesser quality, if we felt ours was the best?... and why consider those who do vote honestly, to be poor sports?

The problem is if we make the voting so that everyone can see who voted who no one ever votes.

I will however ask Daniel if we can make it so you cannot vote for yourselfs.

If you chose to vote for yourself thats absolutly fine. But its more sportman like if you read the others and vote your favourite from theirs.

The decision is yours at the end of the day.

    End of Converstion.

    Happy voting.......
