Past Contest Poetry Contest #274 -- Theme: "Hotel for the Broken"

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest' started by theoriginalmonsterman, May 17, 2016.

    Hey guys,

Sorry about getting this poetry contest up a little later than usual, but I was busy over the weekend so I didn't have time to put to this together. Hope you all understand.

The theme for this contest I'll be using a photograph once again, and this time around I'll be using a picture @Aaron Smith suggested on this thread here. Feel free to post any pictures you may like to see as the theme for an upcoming poetry contest on this thread. Thanks.

Interpret the theme in any way you want, but please make sure your poem does include the theme in some way.

    A hotel for the broken
    Lost hearts are broken pieces
Shattered like the glass on the floor
Once a vase that held your roses
Now the blades I use to draw blood

    A hotel for the broken
Or a prison for the scarred
After you, I can't tell the difference
    Woe unto the broken hearts

I'm sorry I was no prince charming
    That I couldn't please
All the desires you had coming
    With my simple melodies

    I'm sorry I couldn't listen
    Despite my ears that bleed
From long hours taking what you said-
    Bad things about me

    A hotel for the broken
    Lost hearts are broken pieces
Shattered like the glass on the floor
Once a vase that held your roses
Now the blades I use to draw blood

    A hotel for the broken
Or a prison for the scarred
After you, I can't tell the difference
    Woe unto the broken hearts

    Woe unto the broken hearts

    These walls hold the writing
Of songs I still sing in my sleep
    For you, dear Lady Macbeth
For you, for you, for you

    But singing never soothed you
    You'd cry for something new
I tried the roses, I tried the noose
I've got nothing more for you

    A hotel for the broken
    Lost hearts are broken pieces
Shattered like the glass on the floor
Once a vase that held your roses
Now the blades I use to draw blood

    A hotel for the broken
Or a prison for the scarred
After you, I can't tell the difference
    Woe unto the broken hearts

    A hotel for the broken
Or a prison for the scarred
After you, I can't tell the difference
    Woe unto the broken hearts

    Woe unto the broken hearts
    Woe unto the broken hearts

I couldn't do it for you
So I'll sing MYSELF to sleep
A final rest, in this mess
If only they'd let me have some string

    I love you

    Woe unto the broken hearts

-Woe Unto The Broken Hearts (a song)

    You are what you eat

Hotel for the Broken, when you have no where else to stay
A night in here's enough, for most to take away

When the cold cuts right though, a good wrap could save the day
Battered is our special, are wings and thighs okay?

Dump whats left in batter, it all fries the same.
We can call it chicken, forget the other name.

    Lying in a Broken Hotel

    All my life
    I haven't done well
    I couldn't afford
    the Chelsea Hotel

    I'm lying here
    a broken man
    my youth is but
    a faraway land

    The path took a bend
    I'm near a dead-end
    the bottle's no longer
    my precious friend

    I've got nothing to lend
    nothing to spend
    except what I've saved
    to buy more blend

    The rent is due
    I hear him yell
    I'll end my day
    lying in a broken hotel

    Hotel for the Broken

I'd like space; I've nowhere to go
I'd like rest; my head on a pillow
I'd like peace; my life of trouble
I'd like distance; my pile of rubble
    I'd like a room; I need a token
I'd like to live; although I am broken
