    Greenhouse Dreams

Specks of crackled paint on the wall,
flaking away by our motions on the patio,
Listen to the low tones of the singer on the radio,
Listen to the birds, you can hear them call.

On the wet grass we lie in bosom:

Darling, smell the ozone in the air,
let the sweat drop from your hair.

    Summer,

You leave us, but never the same.

    escape the rat race

the things we do in summertime
to soothe away our yearly strife
to drink our G and Ts with lime
    to deaden life

those things we do in summertime
they give us respite (just about)
to carry on the yearly climb
    and not to shout

so give me more of summertime
to plan my great escape for love
to spare me work’s amoral grime
    to rise above

    Fun in the Sun

    Ocean's blue
    Sands are white
    Skies clear
    Flying kite

    Air is thick
    Skin burns hot
    Water's cool
    Splash a lot

    Surfing waves
    Sailing boat
    Swim all day
    Stay afloat

    Castle's built
    Children play
    Rainbow towels
    Parents lay

    Sizzle barbeque
    Summer rays
    Have a beer
    Happy days!

    Until Death Do We Part

This Summertime, is a woefull time in all of my years,
I am alone, and sad, I shed my tears.
I scream my pain and rage,
    Into the blue sky,
    Turning the page.
    My eyes like flint,
    My heart torn and bent.
No one is left to care for me,
To pick my up, off of my knee.
So forgive me father, for I have sinned.
And it started when he grinned.
I see the life, draining in blood,
    Seeping into the mud,
    Because I am a killer.
    And I am paying,
    My hair is greying,
    I am alone,
No dog nor man, will ever throw me a bone.
    O Lord,
    I am reaping my reward.

The Great Irony (no matter how much a couple is in love one will ultimately always hurt the other)

It was the first day of summer, when I met Claire,
everything about her was stunning, her face, her hair
Like a ray from the sun she lightened my life,
all my stresses were no longer a strife.
    We enjoyed our formative years,
with lots of laughter and nearly no tears,
A house was bought, rooms filled with baby things
and all the happiness that those little feet bring.
The children grew up before our eyes,
we kept no secrets and told no lies.
The children left home and we were alone again.
My heart was still hers, her stake her claim
The last day of summer we spent together,
she was gone from this world for now, forever,
Another day without my Claire, would fill my soul with despair
I cannot breathe and I cannot think,
I cannot continue without my link,
I see the sun one final time,
    I remember her face,
    I leave this place.

    The Hungry Season

    It’s that smell
    That deep, hot smell
    Of wet grass.
    A Midwest summer aroma

    That makes my heart
    Come to a full stop
    In my hollow chest.

Last time, a flash of lightening
    Came through the windows,
    Illuminating her slack expression,
As I shoved my keys in my pocket
    And turned away.

Walking out the door, I took
    One last look. The air
    Filled my lungs with moisture
    And fear.

I still remember the last breath
    She stole
    From my throttling hands
    Wrapped around her neck.

    And I can smell it now;
    Impending rain hanging
    Still in the clouds.

    This one says two hundred
    For an hour.

    I prefer free.

    Summer

    Parched earth
    Scorching sun
    Yellow sunflowers
    Spiced buttermilk
    Evening breeze
    Clear skies
    Temple festivals
    Best friends
    Closed schools
    Monsoon clouds
    Paper boats
    Endless summer

    Concrete roads
    Sunscreens
    Plastic plants
    Flavoured soda
    Air conditioning
    City lights
    Traffic jams
    Happy hours
    Acquaintances
    Open offices
    Monsoon clouds
    Umbrellas
    Missing home
    An empty me !

    Far too bright,

    light pours in

    from every side.

    Consuming shadow,

    emphasize

    every

    line.

    Pulls them forth to

    dramatize.

    Only the small

    here may thrive-

    No room for me

    at summer time.

    Season's End

    Sun seems grey these days.

    Should I remain a Marine?

    Four more hard summers.
