"Word Games" renamed to "Writing Prompts"

Discussion in 'Announcements' started by Daniel, Jan 29, 2013.

I've renamed the word games forum to the new writing prompts forum.

Traditional word games are still allowed, but feel free to post writing prompts and challenges. This section is meant as a fun place to stimulate creative writing from a community perspective.

This forum is not for private writing contests or meant to act as a substitute for the writing workshops.

I think this is a good change. The Word Games forum was littered with mindless "games" that were little more than resource-wasting games of tag. Worse, they tended to draw in members who had no interest in writing, only in relieving boredom.

Frankly, I'd like to see that kind of "game" abolished. We can do better, and we don't need to attract bored kids seeking a diversion from paying attention in class. I know that sounds harsh, but it has been a recurring problem.

I love this, because there was a void between the RPG forum and the workshop. ;)

This is a good change, as it makes it much simpler for people and makes it more obvious on what to the forums mean.

I just wanted to echo Cogito's sentiment. I just spent a few moments perusing the 'my knight can beat up your knight' thread and I was concerned not only about the pointless brevity, but even more about the horrible grammar and spelling.

On a writing forum, we should expect more from our members.

    Just my thoughts.
