    Batoned or Battoned?

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Tyler Danann, Oct 31, 2015.

Not sure which, if at all, are correct on these ones:

“Come on you’ll have to drive, my ankle is useless! The bitch battoned me.”
    or
“Come on you’ll have to drive, my ankle is useless! The bitch batoned me.”

A baton had been used to strike the speaker in question...

According to a random Google search, what you want is "batonned." But the journalistic world having induced so much slackness in orthography, you probably can get away with "batoned." Though, strictly-speaking, that word should be pronounced "ba-toned," as in "tone-deaf."
