    Posting a chapter...?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by zelda, Sep 22, 2010.

Hi. If I post just one chapter of less than 10 pages, will it hurt my chances of getting published later? If not, I would like to post one for critique soon...

    Thanks

Anytime you post an excerpt of something you intend to get published, you hurt your chances of getting it published. So if it's a chapter from something you intend to submit, I wouldn't post it.

You could post a small excerpt from the chapter if you think it's worth getting feedback on.

PM me, I love reviewing and I can offer helpful comments (I've taken a few workshops in college and I have a critical/analytical eye when I read stuff). If you PM me I'll give you my email and you can email it to me. :)

Your best bet is to post samples of your writing, but not of works you are targeting for publication.

Critique is not about the specific piece of writing, but about your overall writing skill. A sample of your writing created for critique is every bit as valuable as a sample of the specific opus you wish to publish.

After all, you will need to extrapolate the recommendations you choose to implement throughout your manuscript anyway.

By the way, you are not permitted to request private critiques on this site. I know you didn't, but a removed post implied that you could.

Quoted because it is so true it should be seen twice.

Sorry, I was thinking more along the lines of friends on the site reading the work for you. My bad. :/
