    Thanks button

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by radnommandess, Jan 13, 2013.

On a number of different forums on different subjects that I have used there is a little button at the end of each post you can click on to thank the writer for their post. Personally this is something that I like. I was wondering if anyonelse thinks this could be a good idea on this forum?

I quite like that feature too, but you can at least leave reputation on here (by clicking on the star at the bottom of the post). It doesn't show up on the post but the post author gets to see it, and a message if you choose to leave it.

We have the reputation feature (little star, underneath the post) which performs essentially the same function.

But you can't see who sent the reputation (unless they sign it in the message), right? Or am I missing something?

Yes, that's correct. Which is why, if you are giving reputation, it's polite to identify yourself within the message.

Maybe it would be useful to mention it there, because I think not everyone realizes that. I've seen a similar function on other forums and they included the sender's name automatically.

I certainly have the capacity to add this if enough people would like the feature.

I was actually considering adding it in the Writing Workshop.

Which sounds better, a "Thank You" or a "Like" button/link? They're essentially the same thing.

"Like" has come to mean "Like <this item> on facebook," so I believe "Thank you" is less potentially confusing.

Would it be possible to add a feature that lets you sort a thread by how many times a post has been thanked? It could come in handy for people looking for the most helpful answer without having to navigate through all the posts.

I'm not sure, but I will look into this.
