Prompts for Upcoming Contests (December - May)

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Short Story Contest' started by Tenderiser, Sep 14, 2016.

Here you can find prompts for upcoming contests at least three months in advance, so you can take as much writing time as you need. You can enter as many or as few contests as you like. Remember that stories must be 1,200 - 5,000 words long. You'll be able to submit your entries from the 1st to the 14th of each month (e.g. 1-14 November for the November contest).

The thread is locked to avoid confusion, as the opening post will be changing on a regular basis. If you have any concerns about the prompts, please PM me. And don't forget you can suggest the prompts you want to see here.

    December

Prompt Option 1: Your story must contain the line, "Gently put the teddy bear down. I don't want to have to pull the trigger." (Proposed by @halisme and very popular with the forum)

Prompt Option 2: Take inspiration from this photo:

    January - Open Contest

You don't have to use a prompt--give us the best your imagination has got. Voters will be reminded not to take use (or lack of) of a prompt into consideration.

For those who prefer to work with a prompt, give us a story about a new year's resolution that goes horribly wrong.

    February

(Apologies for the SPAG - I didn't make the picture and am too lazy to recreate it with correct spelling and punctuation. :D)

    Prompt Option 2:
Write a story based on a song of your choice. (Thanks to @Jarvis XIX. You can either tell us the song in the story, or get us to guess!)

    March

Prompt Option 1: You wake up one morning, walk into the bathroom, look in the mirror... and your reflection isn't there. (Thanks to @OurJud for this idea)

Prompt Option 2: Write a story based on time zones. (Thanks to @Scot)

    April

Prompt Option 1: One person's garbage is another's treasure. (Thanks to @Sack-a-Doo!)

    Prompt Option 2:

(This is the 'Elephant's Foot' at Chernobyl - a lump of corium from the nuclear disaster so radioactive that anybody standing next to it for more than a few seconds is almost certain to die. Read more here. Of course, you can also make up your own scenario for what this is.)

    May - Open Contest

You don't have to use a prompt--give us the best your imagination has got. Voters will be reminded not to take use (or lack of) of a prompt into consideration.

For those who prefer to work with a prompt, give us a story based on this scenario: A person approaches you. He gives you a choice between two items. (Thanks to @Domino355)
