Word required, someone who is inverse ad-hoministic?

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Steb, Jun 18, 2010.

Is there an easier way to describe someone who praises the quality of information because of who the deliverer is rather than the information itself?

Often done to flatter for hope of reciprocal friendship.

Also seen when someone agrees with another of repute to raise credibility for themselves.

I don't know any word for the person doing it, but to do it is using "argument by authority".

    A suck-up.

An opportunist. A coat-tail rider (sorry, I made that last one up :) )

When it's a person talking about how great an author is when reviewing a story it's called Author Worship

I don't know if this helps at all

    Interesting answers :) Thanks.

Opportunist: definitely true but not specific enough.
    Suck-up, brown-noser, a****-licker: too informal
    Coat-tail rider: :)
Citsinimoh-da: where's that from? Sounds Japanese or Latin.

Well done, you got me.
