    Questions about Short Story Collection

Discussion in 'Publishing' started by Lmc71775, Aug 31, 2010.

I have a short story collection in a dark and twisted theme. My collection is about 16k long. (I found a few publishers that would take that word count) Do you write a query for that and how?

Do you add a table of contents to your submission?

You said you found a few publishers that handle that length. I suggest you follow their writers' guidelines.

If the publishers ask for a full manuscript, then include a table of contents. For the first query package, you probably won't be including more than a story or two, so I wouldn't worry about the Table of Contents.

And, as always, follow the guidelines on the publishers' websites.

if you're referring to a book containing only 16k words in total, i can't imagine any paying publisher taking it on... and if referring to a magazine, i don't know of any who'd publishe several stories by one author in the same issue...

are you sure these are legit publishers?... did you check them in p&e?...

the reason publishers don't put out book collections of short stories by unknown new writers is that there's no market for them... in fact, there's only a relatively small market for short story collections by acknowledged masters of the art...

on the other hand, there are lots and lots of scam outfits waiting to take advantage of new and unwary writers, by offering to 'publish' anything, whether anyone will buy it or not...

what are the names of these publishers you intend to submit to?
