Hello! I'm Annie, and I've recently taken to the idea of writing an actual novel (or novella!) after reading through some of my stories I wrote as a child. I decided to join a few online writing forums in order to get my inspiration on, and find resources and the like. I also really love reading, which is why I chose to join this forum! Y'know, since I can not only get my own writing critiqued, but critique the writing of others! As childish as it may be, I never moved past the whole "princess/fairies/mermaids/magic" phase I was in as a child, but I don't intend to grow out of it ever, so I'm hoping I can use that to an advantage as I write. (I'm not sure how I'm supposed to end introductory forum posts. Whoops.)
Hello, Annie. If you enjoy writing about princesses/fairies and magic etc why not write children's stories? In fact, why not go the whole hog and package them into short stories with the merchandise etc. God, if they can sell 'Pepper Pig' you don't even need artistic talent! Welcome to the madhouse.
The good folk at Disney will one day want to speak to you. Why would one ever wish to grow out of this phase? Why would one wish for the magic of possibility to be trounced by the banality of workaday reality? As a writer, and an adult, I think it's a rare thing indeed to be able to recapture the easy flow of creativity we have as children when sofa cushions become castles and pet terriers are dragons in disguise. Keep that inner child well fed and happy, Annie, and the naysayers be damned! Have a flip through the New Member Quick Start. If you've joined a few forums it's important to note that they all have their individual personalities and quirks, and that's a good thing. I belong to several myself and if they were all the same, well... then... they would be all the same and there wouldn't be much point to having a few different tide-pools into which to dip one's toes, now would there. Thank you both, you're very kind ^.^ I'll be sure to join some forums, but I'll probably explore first! I have actually given writing children's books a thought, and I might write one or two, probably in the form of short chapter books. We'll see how it goes
