    Manga Recommendations

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Kratos, Sep 20, 2008.

Any good manga? I like watching anime occasionally, but I find I can get through manga faster. I'll list some of my favs.

    -Death Note
    -Naruto
    -Bleach
    -D. Gray-Man
    -Black Cat
    -DBZ

And I love Code Geass, although that's an anime.

I read it online if I can't rent it at the library. (Mainly ones that are still only in Japanese and are translated). And I have read the first few chapters of Ruroni Kenshin, although some things confused me. I'll give it another shot. :)

Look at the anime recommendations. Pretty much every anime is an adaptation of a manga, or has a manga adaptation (the Japanese in my opinion are the master marketers of the world. They really know how to sell the same stuff over and over again to the same people and yet it always feels new :p).

You may want to check out One Piece.

Fullmetal Alchemist (the manga and the anime have completely different story lines).

Neon Genesis Evangelion has a manga adaptation and a manga spin-off called Angelic Days that focuses more on the characters.

If you like Naruto, you'll probably like Satan 666 (its made by the brother of the creator of Naruto, and is notorious for having a near copyright infringment story line with some crazy kabalah twists:p)

Which Fullmetal Alchemist is better, the anime or manga?

I would recommend S-cry-ed. I haven't read the manga, but the anime is really good.

I find they are hard to compare. The story lines take divergent paths at about volume 3 of the manga, and episode 10 of the Anime. Many manga characters and events were never put into the anime as it stormed ahead of its manga counterpart.

The only similarities are the base story lines. Ed and Al lose their bodies and want the philosophers stone to get them back. Thats about it. Many of the characters aren't even the same (wrath and pride are completely different and so is Greed). Many characters never appear in the anime (worst off its some of the cooler ones).

I say they are both equal as they have their own heights and greatness. overall the franchise is just spectacular. I really can't pick one over the other.

    Rabbit Doubt
I really recommend it, its dark, and has an amazing story. It will have you hooked on every page.

Um, I've only so far read the Death Note mangas and the Hellsing mangas. More of an anime fan myself. I must warn you though, Hellsing is ultra violent, so if you don't mind severe sequences of blood 'n gore, than you probably ought not read it.

And in response to an earlier suggestion, I have read Watchmen, and loved it. But it's not manga, so I didn't mention it.

Hands down, the best manga I've ever read was Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys . They won't be releasing this in English anytime soon, as they are waiting for MONSTER (which is just as great) to end.

A sampler: First few pages. Enjoy.

I'd recommend Immortal Rain by Kaori Ozaki. I really enjoyed that one (still waiting on book 9 though - Damn living in England!!). Vampire Knights is good too.

To add to the Neil Gaiman list, Stardust is a great book, although perhaps not everyone's thing. Neverwhere was excellent.

Currently chomping through Bleach - what a mission! There's so many!!

Hellsing! (I can't believe it hasn't been suggested.) Gantz is really interesting too.
