I give them whenever someone critiques my work and didn't just put a "oh that was good" so they could post their own for review.
I remember that I think it was in return of me giving you good rep for one of your novels. I really enjoyed it. I understand how it works, I just think it's fun and a nice thing to do I don't think it means very much, but it makes me (and I'm sure others) feel good to give and receive it. On the whole, as I said, I only give it to users whose pieces I really enjoyed or posts that I've personally found to be very helpful. Yup, same
I prefer to voice my support for a well written piece of work through a comment, rather than an anonymous boost to their rating. I do not like the idea; I find it better to reward for help than to reward for something being well-written. As well, the issue of giving negative reputation points for bad pieces makes me less obliging towards it. Constructive criticism in the thread itself proves much more relevant than a deduction to your reputation. On the other hand, negative reputation for intentional breaches of etiquette (posting bad reviews so you can break the "2 reviews->1 thread" rule, etc.) or poor manners would suit me fine, as well as tossing negative points onto those half-hearted reviews. Granted, some people may review like that, particularly when busy (I have a few times ) but they're not posting solely to throw their work out there for a free spell check. Obviously it's not something set in stone, but that's generally how I use the system.
Most of the time, I forget all about the rep points system. I do post messages of approval for particularly well written posts, whether they be reviews or keenly-worded opinions on discussion points. But sometimes I will, in addition, add a rep boost. As for negative reps, they are an anonymous way for the average member to make an anonymous statemet to someone who is just being obnoxious, short of the more drastic Report This Post option, or PMing a mod to complain. The transgressor gets a comment in his or her UserCP, and perhaps a visible token of shame, but no worse.
No thats not quite what I meant. What I meant was why not offer some rep to someone who has written a good story poem song screen play. As for anominous well just sign it saying its from you. Thats what I do.
Its paler... isn't it?? lol. Soon we'll be demoted to standard member coloured blue. Imagine that... a forum without mods... CHAOS!!!
Cog was supporter dark green, for a while before. I thought he'd gotten demoted Imagine a forum with me as mod...
Reputation Points What are Reputation Points? I just joined this joint and I'm getting a reputation?......already!! I haven't had time to mess up yet. I don't know, I'm feeling a little intimadated....
Reputation is just a feature that allows users to give you a + or a - on certain responses. If you do something good, are really helpful, or are just plain fun people will give you positive reputation (Conversely, if you find a user helpful, friendly, or fun you can give them positive reputation). You can give negative reputation, but I think that on this site, anything worthy of negative reputation is something that needs to be brought to the attention of the mods or the admin. Its generally something like flaming or being extremely improper that earns you such negatives and most of the things severe enough to garner negative rep are probably serious enough to be reported. Generally its like a kudos system. Someone does something you think is really cool or helpful, you have the option to thank them with reputation points. The same applies to you. So, be friendly .
So who gets to see them or is it my private treasure box? How many are good? How many are bad? Is there a prize for the most points?! Will my mother be proud of me? finally Are there "evil" points?
If you go to your User CP (The link is in the bar just below the user box showing name, last visit, and number of messages) you should see Subscribed Threads and under that, your reputation points. I think only you can see them, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mods or the Admin had access to the info. The user giving you the reputation chooses this. If the box next to the rep is green, its positive, if its red its negative. if the box is gray, then you have gotten an nodd but no points (I don't quite know why you get gray notices since the only options are positive and negative. I think it might have to do with users behing unable to give rep if their post count is too low) If there is I'd like to know about it . But No. I don't think there is. Ahhhhh... maybe
Basically under your name and avatar at the side of every post should be a green dot. or more. While its green your doing good but when they go red well it lets the forums members know whos trouble. or a wolly. The more pips you get the bigger your rep score. Green is good and more green is really good. Red is bad. and more red just shows how stupid you are type of thing.
Well, a newbie or someone with a negative rep. Anyone who doesn't have enough reputation to give reputation points
Can I use this opportunity to ask people to please sign the rep they give out. There's nothing more annoying than not knowing who has reputised you
Thanks Good idea. I got 10 points (thank you very much) and I don't know who gave them to me or why. Evan it they were negative, I would, at least, like to know why they were displeased. As a new writer I'd like the feed back. even if I don't like it Thanks Rickie
