All users begin with 10 reputation points. I suppose that's for having had the good sense to join the site
Look in your UserCP, under Latest Reputation Received. The green pips mark positive reputation granted, the red ones (if any) are negative rep points, and the grey ones could have been either, but the person who gave them couldn't affect your points. Even if there was a negative rep point, it's more likely pettiness than anything you should worry about. You've been a valued and respected member of the community as long as you have been here.
Reputation System I was just curious on how it worked on this site. I really like the aspect of it, but I haven't figured out the system completely.
This thread should answer your question. Basically, there are three separate bars that will appear in your User CP: Green is positive rep. Red is negative rep. Grey or Gray is positive rep from a new member, or someone without much rep themselves. (may also be negative, I'll wait on someone else to point that out) The amount of reputation you can give out to fellow members is weighted upon a number of factors, mainly your post count, own reputation, and possibly the length of time you've spent on the forum. For example, Cogito could provide enough rep. to feed us all. If you have plenty of positive reputation it would be safe to assume you're respected by many members on the site. Those are the basics as I see it.
I know how it works a little from other sites I've been on, but now I'm curious about the math on how it's given. I guess it's not a big deal I think it's pretty awesome. Wish people would us it more often.
I've never seen the mathematics of the rep. system explained so here's to hoping Daniel comes along soon ... It might actually be on the vBulletin site/forum if you want to look. I'm too lazy.
As I recall: You start with the ability to give 1 rep point. You can give an extra point for every hundred reputation points you have (every extra green bar on your profile). You can also give an extra point for every 500 (I think) posts in your post count.
Well, that would mean I give five points, I think since, I'm at 2,000+, and have one automatically. Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Have five rep points
Yeah, but I only use negative rep to people that flame around the forum. Fifteen? Crazy. Cog probably gives a lot too. 20 if I did my math right. But anyways Thanks guys. I got it. Hopefully others will get into it. I know I give rep to those that join my RPG's or Critique my work.
I think I give around 15 as well. Not too sure actually. I can't give rep at the moment though...my laptop won't let me do it But yes Oasis you give 5 Thank you btw
I don't usually notice when I get rep either... Unless the person tells me or I randomly decide to go look.
If everything up there is correct, I'd say you give 9. 2,595/500 = 5.19 + 1 + 3 = 9.19 So, if that's right, then I guess we found the pattern lol
Out of curiosity, do you lose rep points (that have been granted to you) through gradual decay of some sort, or do you only lose rep by being negative-repped?
*why is it that when we speak about the reputation system I get this rediculous image Fonzee whacking the jukebox and saying Aye!*
So, what if on your Reputation recieved panel on the User CP, one of the reps had a gray box? I took this to mean that the person who repped me didn't have the status to add to my reputation. But was I wrong? Because, if that's true and that particular rep was zero, then I got twenty-something points from one person alone... =O
