    Gary Glitter back In Britain

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Raven, Aug 20, 2008.

Gary Glitter has refused to board a UK-bound plane after being freed from a Vietnamese jail where he served time for child sex abuse.

The former 70s glam rock star, real name Paul Gadd, had served two years and nine months of a three-year sentence at Thu Duc jail in Binh Thuan for sexually abusing two girls aged 10 and 11.

Earlier, Glitter, wearing a blue baseball cap, white top, blue jeans, and covering his face with a black and white checked scarf, flew out of Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City and had been due to board a flight to London in Bangkok.

On arrival in the Thai capital, the 64-year-old was met by immigration police and taken immediately to a VIP room. He asked to be allowed to enter Thailand but was refused. Glitter then demanded a flight to Singapore but was told this would not be possible until later.

Following a series of confrontations involving British Embassy officials, police and Thai immigration officers, Glitter demanded to be allowed to lie down and collapsed in a bedroom at the Louis Tavern, a VIP area which has a number of small bedrooms where passengers can rest.

He has reportedly rented a room for eight hours and has now demanded to be taken to hospital complaining of heart problems.

If and when Glitter does arrive in Britain, he will be met by police and will have to sign the register of sex offenders and be forced to tell the authorities where he will live and if he plans to travel abroad.

He could also face an order prohibiting him from going near children or using the internet.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has said she does not want Glitter to be able to travel abroad once back in the UK.

Ms Smith said: "We need to control him, and he will be, once he returns to this country."

She said Glitter will be required to sign the sex offenders' register and will have to notify the authorities if he wants to travel abroad.

"It certainly would be my view that with the sort of record that he's got, he shouldn't be travelling anywhere in the world. I want Gary Glitter to be controlled whilst he's here and I don't want him to be able to go anywhere else in the world in order to abuse children."

I heard that he got caught with kiddie porn back in the day, but being in a Vietnamese prison is news to me. They should just force him to board the plane and get back to the U.K.

I agree. He's not to be trusted and in the UK they can keep an eye on his movements better.

This guy is truly a sick joke to the Human Race.

Faking a heart attack won't work. The Thai authorities don't want him in their country, and personally, I think once back in Britain he should be placed under house arrest. I find it extremely unlikely that he is anything like rehabilitated.

I agree Matt. I think he's too sick in the head. I personally think humans like him should be put to death. He's certainly proved he's an evil human.

The fact he fled this country after serving time says it all. But yet he continues and landed a three year sentence in Vietnam serving a good portion.

He's always going to attempt to entise children. And for that alone he should be sectioned.

Sectioned, yes. But not executed. That's too quick, to humane.

Raven, you have said everything I wanted to say right here....

Pity that it won't happen. The world could do with less like him stalking the streets...

Better to get rid of them as fast as possible if you ask me. A slow, agonising death may sound more fitting, but at the end of the day, one less predator of this kind stalking the streets is more important!

Yes I have to agree with Tor. Having childrem myself one of the worst things a parent should have to worry about is sickos. I'm afraid humane or not I beleive they should be executed. And Glitter hasn't even stopped. He's a very sick in the head individual.

I don't think that they should be allowed back into the community once they have offended. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to give them the chance to do it again?!

I think it's sickening that some people actually tried to defend him. What reason would anyone have to support him?
I also think it's a bit pathetic that he's trying to pull little stunts like "heart problems" for even more attention.

Only one thing amazes me about this case.
That the Vietnamese didn't castrate him.

If he thinks he is so privileged and entitled, he can feel free to walk on water to get where he is going.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and offer an extremist viewpoint.

I personally feel that these kinds of offenses against children, when proven to be 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt should be punishable to the maximum extent of the law. In the United States, the maximum extent in most states is quite maximum indeed.

You know, I think castration might be more of a deterrent as an example to others than the death penalty is.

BTW, I hope it's all right that I have absolutely no idea who this guy is.

Gary Glitter is a classic 70s glam rocker with hits such as Wanna Be In My Gang and I'm the Leader.

He was an Icon for decades until one day came and he took his PC to Dixons to be repaired and they found rather a lot of Child Porn on the hard drive. (Sicko) Since then he served time here and fled on his release. And has continued to be a sicko with children.

Unfortunately, only "chemical castration" is allowed in the US, because we are too civilized to mutilate a fine member of society.

But I would still love to hear a judge decree, "Bobbitt!" then bang the gavel, and saY, "Next case."

Wow, chemical castration just doesn't even address the issue does it? It doesn't have the same "wince" quality as a knife. I seriously doubt that most of those guys are trying to make children when they're engaging in those activities.

No, the theory behind chemical castration is that it suppresses the arousal. But the psychological desire is not affected, and not all molestation involves that organ.

Even physical castration would not really change matters much. Raven is probably closer to what's needed, but politically that's not considered civilized. It violates the human rights of the convicted felons.

I only wish there were as much concern for the human rights of the victims.

Complete agreement. I hate to the core the idea that my tax dollars feeds child molesters.
