    Science head shaker

Discussion in 'Debate Room' started by Steerpike, Aug 7, 2015.

At the GOP debate, Huckabee said we now know with certainty that human life begins at conception because of what science has told us about the "DNA Schedule."

Anyone know what the hell he is on about?

It's a standard life begins at conception argument, they don't apply all the rest of the abortion argument, just claim that since conception begins a pregnancy, ergo science proves our moral position.

The problem is, one could make the same argument for when the fetus can survive outside the womb, or life begins at birth, or the egg and sperm are where life begins because God said not to spill one's seed on the ground.

Heh. I Googled "huckabee dan schedule". The very first hit was "There was a gross misunderstanding of basic science during the GOP debate."

He appears to have discovered the fact that a fertilized egg has DNA. I guess he was napping in junior high--or people like him managed to get sex education banned when he was in school.

An unfertalized ovum also contains DNA. In fact every cell in your body has DNA in it. And when Huckabee was in school, sex education didn't even exist.

Mature red blood cells don't have DNA, do they?

No, but they start with it. They can't reproduce or be created without DNA in their nucleus. I guess I should have said every cell has had DNA in it.

Arguing about what GOP candidates say is like responding to internet trolls.
