Screenwriting: How do I structure a pre-credit prologue

Discussion in 'Genre Discussions' started by Ingenious, Jul 15, 2010.

    Hello WritingForums

I am just beginning to come into my own as a screenwriter (mostly for film); but I have been stuck when trying to depict a prologue for a film I am writing. This will be a pre-credit voiced over prologue with inter-flashing images and scenes. Similar to the Lord of the Rings opening to the first movie.

Can someone please enlighten me on how to structure this?

    Thank you.

i can't show you exactly here, as i could if you email me your actual script pages, but i'll give you an example as best i can [dialog would be indented, in script, but can't be done here]:

...that's just one way to do what you want... you can study actual scripts that use this technique, to see how they're done... just make sure you're not looking at real screenplays, not 'transcripts'...

...i mentor many aspiring screenwriters, so if you want more help, or tips from the pros, feel free to email me any time...

    love and hugs, maia
