Would anyone care to beta read a 90k contemporary romance over the next couple of weeks? I really suck at blurbs / summaries but it's basically that the MC falls for her best friend's father. Awkward. It's high-level feedback I'm interested in: do you like the characters? Are there any times when their actions don't make sense? Did anything annoy you or bore you or make you want to stop reading? It should be a fairly quick read because I'm not exactly Nabokov. It should also be relatively free of typos, though the gits always sneak their way in somewhere. I can beta read for you in return, either now or on an IOU basis, or can help with whatever you need (within reason - I've already sold my soul).
I've read Tenderiser's other novel (not this one she's talking about but the one that's landed an agent) and I can say her writing is very enjoyable. Tight, clear, with cracking good humour. If you like romances, definitely give her books a go!
I've had an amazing response--thank you so much to everyone who's reading. I think I'll feel guilty if I take anyone else's time, so unless you really really want to beta read it (or unless you're a big romance fan) I think I'm all set for readers. You guys are the best!
I'm not in a position to beta read a novel just now, but I beta-read @Tenderiser 's first, and it was excellent. She deserves to get published. I'm sure the second will be every bit as enjoyable.
