Hi Everyone, If I were to replace the word 'hearts' in a slogan with a symbol of a heart and an 's' at the end, would I need an apostrophe? Thanks!
I would think no, an apostrophe is used to show ownership or missing letters, In your slogan the heart symbol replaces the letters h.e.a.r.t the added 's' shows that it is plural. Welcome to the forums.
What are the spelling and punctuation rules for hybrids of graphics and text? As far as I know, there are none. Whatever seems to communicate the meaning of the composite image to the viewer. It is, after all, more graphic arts than writing.
the symbol should be treated the same way as the word would be... so, if it's meant to symbolize more than one heart, then just the 's'... if it's meant to symbolize a possessive, then the apostrophe is needed...
