your signature how did you get to chose it?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Cacian, Jan 27, 2012.

I find members signature fascinating and provide a field for endless conversations.
    1) why did you chose your signature?
    and
    2) which other signature attracted your attention in this forum or others you have come across?

    a) My signatures are my own.
    and
    b) 'live by the sword and die by the sword'
is one saying/quote from the bible or a biblical commentary on the statement Jesus makes that if we take our sword, that we can also perish by that sword.
I picked this one in particular it rather makes me uncomfortable.

The first quote in my signature is just from a book I read a while ago, and I found it amusing.

The second is an exert from one of my favourite songs, and at the moment I feel my life pretty much follows those lyrics.

And the last bit is a shameless bid to try and get people to read my blog :D

    Hey CH878
I did notice your first signature.
    Which book/story was that?
You second one is indeed a brilliant quote for a song.
what kind of band/music is it?
Haha I like your attempts on blog attention.
You are better off starting a thread about it to get the ball roling I'd say:)

-The book is Brigands MC by Robert Muchamore, a teen action thriller.

-The band is Sum 41, a pop punk band, who I'm listening to a lot at the moment.

Not sure where I found the quote, but it put me in mind of a friend of mine. He's done a lot of very impressive things in his life, but the last couple of decades has slowed down. He's gotten quite some ridicule for it, most of which coming from people who haven't done anything nearly as noteworthy. And it also happens to fit my view of life as well :p

I change them from time to time.

The one I have now? I just think it's a profound statement.

My husband ran across the MM quote I use. He said it reminded him of me.

I have three quotes in mine, all of which inspire me to continue my writing.

    1) "When asked, 'How do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time.'" - Stephen King

Sometimes I just get so overwhelmed with a project that I feel like I can't go on. When it comes to my writing the perfectionist in me comes out. This quote, coming from an author I respect, reminds me that I'm not alone and that I need to take things little by little.

    2) “A writer is somebody for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people." - Thomas Mann

Just a quote a former English teacher in HS once wrote on a paper I submitted. She was probably the first person I poured my heart and soul into my pieces for. She saw potential in my writing. I'll never forget what it feels like to have someone believe in me.

    3) “Perfection belongs to the Gods; the most we can hope for is excellence.” - Carl Jung

Again, a quote that helps me deal with my nerves once the perfectionist in me comes out. Instead of obsessing over every single detail and word and striving for everything to be perfect, this quote pretty much reminds me that no matter what I do it can never truly be perfect. Therefore, I should just relax and strive instead to produce an excellent piece.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to explain. :)

It is sure a quite strong quote from a Marilyn Monroe, Idid not realise she was that hard on herself.
It is a real eye opener from such a sex symbol and world wide famous actress.

It's the wordcount for the book I'm writing, to remind me when I'm posting here that more work needs to be done.

It means that we put way more thought and energy into our writing than what normal people do.

And I'm not sure. It's just a quote I stumbled upon on an old writing forum I frequented when I was younger.

Can't remember what my signature is.

EDIT: Oh, that. The inaugural speech of the last Lord of the Isles, of course. Since I'm writing about the first, it seemed only fitting.

That's probably true. The ones who think about it less aren't critical enough on themselves to improve.

My sig is a formal sign off. Ledge Bocs is my nickname, my spirit animal is a bear, and pan is an abbreviation for pansexual. PM me if you have questions about it.

i had given up my 'old' way of life and been living by the precept of the quote i have in my sig for quite a while, before i learned that the mahatma had put it into those few such powerful words... which is why i use it for all of my posts and email...

i sometimes also add one of my own to it: 'that some do evil gives none the right to do evil in return'

Mine is usually just a good quote from people I admire. My current one is one of my favourite lines from, strangly, one of my least favourite plays.

Lyrics from a song titled World is yours. It's about persevering no matter how many times you fail and lose your way - the lines I chose for my signature are specific to writing. I don't particularly find it motivating for writing but for persevering in general.

    Translation of the full verse:

"This transparent road is taking on colour
    Vivid, limitless and marvelous
You hold a pen in your hand [and with it]
Start writing about a tommorrow that no one else can."

    - original lyrics both written & performed by Tomohisa Yamashita.

A few lines from my favourite song by Runrig.

Bearing in mind they're a 70s rock band named after an antiquated farming system, they're actually pretty good.
