I've noticed that if you hit "reply" it copies their quote to the quick reply box...and if you scroll back up and click reply to another it lists the new quote below the first. But not as convenient as it was before, I agree.
exactly! the quote and the strike-through are used on a regular basis, while some of the others in the tool bar are next to never used... so please switch some of the latter to the drop-down and put the 'standards' back up where we can see them and just a single click is needed to use 'em...
It's a template issue, but there should an equivalent of the previous multi-quote. This is currently my top priority. I hope to have it back up today. As for smilies, I'm okay with adding more and I'm open to suggestions. I don't want to be one of those forums with 100's of options, but doubling our current usage is cool with me. Suggestions? Smilie suggestions so far: big LOL ROTFLMAO Clapping Head-banging into wall/computer Popcorn Hissy fit? thumbs up Anyone else have thoughts on this? On a related note, I'm considering adding a tips/advice/sticky-quality threads forum that anyone can read but only Senior Members and up can post - it'd be a place to kind of chronicle these types of threads. We could also have a member-of-the-month contest, I know a lot of forums have these. Thoughts?
How would you determine member of the month? A poll? The mods? Something besides the 'like' option? Sounds complicated. How about points for good critiques in the workshop or something? The people I think deserve recognition are folks that take a lot of time to help others with their writing.
I am rather inclined to agree with this for two reasons. Firstly, because it directly relates to the forum venue (yes, I can hear the eyes rolling now), and secondly, because there at least seems something quantifiable in this idea.
We should also consider good posts in other areas of the forum that deal with writing (General Writing, etc.).
Good question. We could create a separate thread to discuss this and toss around ideas. Maybe nominations with base criteria, then public voting? It could involve: Quality Critiques Sticky-quality threads/posts Quality Resources/Articles Long-time contribution/volunteering Minimum criteria: minimum posts/reg date, maybe senior member+ or something like that Maybe minimum requirements, then nominations, and during the nominations/voting there could be mention of contributions (such as those above). I probably wouldn't be able to administer this, and I'm not even sure it's a good idea, but if everyone likes this we can definitely pursue it further.
Multi-quote has been re-added. It's a little different. You can multi-quote cross-threads, so bring posts to quote from different threads and forums. You can also select/verify which quotes you'd like to add. Additionally (@mammamaia) the strikethrough option should be added back to it's previous place in the editor.
thanks, dan'l!... the simple quote [ ' ' ] icon too, i hope... the fancier stuff that few use only occasionally can be sent to the drop-down instead of those 2 'vital' ones...
I like this idea, but I think we'd need to flesh it out a bit. What constitutes a "good" post? For me, good advice is that which is backed up with reference to publishing experience, makes reference to an authoritative source and/or includes useful examples from well-known published works. Not looking for a formulaic approach, but there should probably be some minimum standard.
I agree helpful posts are not confined to the workshop. I modify my comments as it would be a mistake to just consider the workshop sub-forums.
I'm with you here, Ed. There has to be some level of quantifyability (spellcheck says that's not a word...),else we're in the realm of pure opinion.
It's the Spanish syntax... I have this habit of wanting to make everything into nouns. In Spanish, innumerable is a noun, not an adjective. A noun. Seriously. A noun.
"Look at these nice, ripe innumerables! How much are they? I'd like a dozen innumerables, please." Naw, I can't see it.
We're super off topic, but just to round it off, , the word is treated like other measures. A bushel of... A bundle of... Un sinumero de...
If we decide to present an award for person who made us laugh the most, the first one would go to you, @Garball.
One way to quantify it is to count the number of likes in writing-related subforums (but ignore those given for posts that don't contain anything related to writing (i.e., posts containing nothing more than a joke)). I think this would be much easier if we had the old rep system back. I feel that getting reps actually meant something because they were a lot harder to get compared to likes.
