is this the right board to ask question?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by karlsanada10, Mar 31, 2010.

    I have a question:

Where can I post my story? It isn't a short story but a chapter-by-chapter type of story. Should I post it on non-fiction?

Is it non-fiction? If so then yes.

If it's a novel, then you should post it in the novel forum.

Regardless, you must post two constructive reviews of other members' work for each piece of your own that you post.

    WAIT!

if you hope to have it published, you should not post the entire story... post only a brief excerpt if you want feedback on the writing, or help with some aspect of it...

^Does it mean I can't post the whole story?

I've already written 12 chapters. I posted it on my fave forum. but the board for the creative writing is inactive, well some people do visit it sometimes.

It's a non-fiction. Will post it after I reviewed some piece of yours.xD

It is that big of an issue, because it means you can't sell first publishing rights, which is what most publishers are interested in. Why would they pay you to publish something which people can get for free?

If you have already posted it elsewhere, the damage is done. Once a piece has been posted, it is "published." You cannot unpublish it by taking it down. Like virginity, it is forever gone when you hang it out in public.

Posting very large pieces of writing for critique is counterproductive. No one will want to tackle critique on a huge block of text. Smaller excerpts will typically reveal enough writing flaws for you to work on, and to propagate the lessons learned throughout your manuscript.
