25 Minutes To Edit is Much, Much Too Short! Please Change!

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by JJ_Maxx, Aug 30, 2013.

Please change this. This is a writing forum and we desperately need hours of time for editing like we used to have. 25 minutes is killing me.

    Signed,

    Jason James Maxx, Esq.

I just looked into this. Right now it's because everyone's still been in the "New Member" category. I've set up New Member, Member, Senior Member, and Contributing Member.

New Members should have a time limit on editing posts. Regular members should have no time limit, though I believe it will show an "edited by" notification.

In order for you to be moved from New Member to Member, you either have to log in or make a post. After that it should upgrade you automatically (I think).

How does one reach Senior Member and Contributing Member? I miss being a Senior Member AND a Contributor. (And my green bars.) Also, I'm still a "New Member" and even though it is a minor point and it really should not bother me, for some reason it irritates me immensely.

This issue is mainly due to the loss of the reputation system, actually, since having X rep points was a criteria for those usergroups.

Currently I have it set as the following:

Senior Member: 250 posts, 180 days registered, 50 "likes" (previously reputation points)
Contributing Member: 500 posts, 360 days registered, 200 "likes"

In your case, @chicagoliz, you should now be upgraded to Senior Member status after you make another post (since I recently changed the criteria).

For now you'll have to work towards re-earning the Contributing Member status by getting likes. I'm not lowering the like threshold because I suspect likes will be much more common that giving rep previously was.

As for the rep system and the green bars, once I finish everything I have to do from the upgrade I'll be looking into bringing the system back. This will take some time though, and might not be possible without hiring a custom coder (which will cost some $$$)

Thanks, Daniel. I know it must be a huge PITA to deal with all this.

No problem. I actually don't mind, I just hope I can get everything sorted out soon. Right now the usergroup promotions aren't working as expected, so I'll have to research it a little more. Since your last post you should've been promoted to a Senior Member, but it doesn't look like it's happened yet. :/ I'll keep investigating.

@Daniel - what are the qualifications to move from New Member to Member?

20 posts and 14 days registered. If you meet the criteria and you're still in the New Member group you should be automatically moved either when you log in or when you make a new post somewhere.

Hmmm... Daniel, I have 22 posts and have been registered for almost a year and I have logged out and back in but I still see New Member. Just FYI. ;)

We used to be able to edit posts indefinitely. For example, if I saw a typo in something I posted months ago, I could edit the post to fix it. Since the update, this has not been the case. There is a brief window (25 mins) after posting, during which you can edit. After that, the post cannot be changed.

    @Daniel
It's still not working. I've been a member for five years, with 1000+ posts, and logged in/out twice. I'm still a "New Member" and still can't edit.

And I seem to be stuck as a Brave Little Toaster... :p

I used to have the option of changing my title, but not anymore, and I'm stuck... So I don't know what that means for me if I ever do graduate to being a Senior Member again, like I used to be...

But, in the meantime, being a Brave Little Toaster is not bad lol

    Ah. We creep towards success.

I'm still a 'New Member' (with 795 messages!)—despite posting like mad ever since the upgrade—but as of this morning, I'm allowed to post in the Workshops again. I see I'm listed as a Supporter again too. Thanks!

Right now, the worse thing is I can't think of anything to post in order to test out moving from New Member to Member... but hopefully this very post will do ;)

Edit: I logged out and back in again as well, but nope, didn't work. I'm still a 'Newbie' :(

Regarding the new member group and the new member title - everyone who's posted since my last post isn't a new member (with the exception of Ian for some reason). Most of you are either a Member or Senior Member. For some reason when you move usergroups it's not automatically updating your user title from New Member.

If you're a Supporter, Senior Member, or Contributing Member you should be able to edit that title in your profile.

I'll continue to look into it and see if I can get it to update automatically, like it should.

I'm still a new member, so I'm making this post to see if it does anything.

    Nope, nothing.

Test post again, just to be on the safe side.

    Edit: still no luck.

Same here. Since I'm supposed to be a Senior member, I checked to see if I could edit the title, thinking maybe it was just the words that were showing up incorrectly and not the setting itself. But I can't seem to edit. Or if I can, I cannot figure out how to do it.

Yeah! I am back to a Senior Member. Thanks, Daniel. I understand why you are keeping the threshold at 200 for likes. But I still hate that I had Contributor before, and lost it in the upgrade. Given that I only have 67 likes, it will be quite a while until I get back to Contributor.

I'm now a senior member (so sayeth an alert message), and I edited a post that was more than 12 hours old.
