I realized just now (8am!) that I lack vocabulary when it comes to sounds. I feel that sounds are often neglected in writing, I love writing for all five (six ) senses and well, here I am, stuck. This problem stems from my moving to France aged 14 I think (7 years ago). For example, what sound does water make when it flows gently down a river and a few rocks are protruding? To me it's like a fluttering sound, a bubbling. But what is the real word? I don't feel as if "whooshing" covers it, too harsh. There are many more, but I was writing this morning and this one came up. Maybe a good online Onomatopoeia "dictionary" would help... Something like that. Thanks all.
