I was also one of those idiots being damaged by the dos and don'ts. I only stopped being damaged, and actually helped by them, when I learned how to process the information in a way that helps me.
Well plotters plot, and that is all well in good if you have to know each step along the way (like following very precise trail of bread crumbs with little to no deviation). For the few of us that just make it all up out of thin air tend to be less predictable, and take longer to get shit done as a result. But hey each has its pros and cons, you just have to figure out where you feel comfortable. Though there are those in the middle ground as well.
I can relate to this, too. Rules are there to be interpreted by each individual who takes them on (I'd go so far as to say the same thing about laws, but I've been locked up too many times to go down that road again). If we find a way to make the rules work for us, they can be the best thing since spliced comma clauses.
