    Hmm. Suppose if the bow is broken in two the protagonist would have something like that, BUT would recommend safety goggles as they may poke themselves in the eye with the long ends of the bow.

    I firmly believe that we shouldn't abandon health and safety even in literature.

    Just checked a Yumi bow [google knowledge] and it is rather long so eye protection essential.
