    petted

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by dillseed, May 27, 2014.

An English guru friend of mine disagrees with me on the following examples using petted. I say that all examples are correct; she says no. She says it should pet. Which are correct, and which are incorrect?

    She petted the dog.
    She had petted the dog.
    She has petted the dog.
She would have petted the dog.

    Thank you. :)

Petted is correct. Pet is used informally for past tense, but that's grammatically incorrect.
