    Logging out?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by Novel Novice, Jul 11, 2007.

    Hey all,

I have an unusual problem in that I can't seem to log out of the site. Every time I try, it says "all cookies cleared!", but when I return I do not have to sign back in, and it says I've been "viewing" the site for hours upon hours.

    Any suggestions?

Yeah, there have been issues with the logging out for a while.

Probably a pointless question, but are you closing the browser after you log off?

I don't close the browser, but I switch to another website. (Or go to Yahoo! Home page).

The parts of your soul you refuse to recognize.
    I feel your pain.
The Ad-man has been working it. Supposedly, I've been veiwing the forums for about a week.
    Yeah, that's a little off.

If you don't close the browser in between, the cookie files have been deleted, but the cookie information remains in memory. Try closing the browser after logging off, and see if that solves your problem.

(Actually, I think the cookie is marked for deletion, but only gets deleted what the browser exits).

If that works, perhaps the "all cookies cleared!" message could be expanded with a hint that the browser needs to be closed to complete the logout.

    That's a no-go.

I logged out, and closed the browser I was viewing the site in, but when I went back to the site, I was still logged in.

Have you tried going to your internet options and deleteing your own cookies. That does sometimes work.
Although I haven't had any problems since the upgrade with logging out, but give deleting your own cookies ago and see how that works.

That would at least show whether it's a cookie issue or something else. However, be aware that deleting all your cookies will mean that every site that remembers anything about you from one visit to the next will forget you.

If you don't want to lose your useful cookies while performing the test, export your cookies first to save them in a file, then import them again when you are done testing.

Hmmm. I just tried logging out, and going for a little wander around the internet, and when I came back I appeared to have been signed out for the whole time... So it seems to work fine for me, but not for a host of others... Interesting. Perhaps I'm God...
