    Wow...

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Smurfette, Mar 25, 2009.

I definitely just found my old s/n on a different writing forum from when I was about oh...15. My writing was crappier than it is now and I complained about nothing.

Funny how time changes things! :p

I should hope that your writing has not gotten MORE crappy with time!

Why trash your work? That seems silly because in the end you have nothing.

A writing instructor once gave me this advice, it was on writing a novel, but applies here as well:

"If you are writing [a novel] finish it. It doesn't matter how poorly written it is. It could be the worst book ever written; finish writing it. The worst book ever written can be fixed, that is why we workshop and re-write. You cannot fix what you never finish. THe biggest difference between a would-be-novelist and an author is that the author finished his/her work."

    I would. :)

Toss some work up in the review forum; we will hammer it into shape and it will be AMAZING.

Well that depends, doesn't it. It could start off amazing and be torn to shreds. I haven't been able to write since I posted mine due to certain comments being made which had me in tears for days so I won't ever post anything again. :(

The one about the woman on the boat (plotting murder)? I liked that one. Keep in mind that opinions are like assholes; everyone has one, but only yours truely matters.

Giving up writing over such a thing is a tragedy!

Listen to lordkyle, he's right. Keep working at it, it can only get better. Don't take everyones comments personally. Besides it could be worse with editors from publications, when they send your stuff back. So toughening up here would be a good thing. Learn to let bad comments roll off. But when you get harsh comments, first see if there is any truth in them, and if there isn't you'll know they don't know what they are talking about.
