Movie and Game soundtracks you love

Discussion in 'Entertainment' started by rhduke, May 21, 2013.

I'm talking about original scores, not injected music from billboard artists. There are quite a few I like and I usually listen to them when I'm writing or doing homework. (and TV shows too!)

I like a lot of Hans Zimmer's and Umatsu's work.

The Last Samurai - A Way of Life
    Spider-Man (2002) - Theme Song
Star Trek (2009) - Theme Song
The Lord of the Rings - In Dreams and May it Be
    Gladiator - Elysium
Pirates of the Caribbean - Theme
Final Fantasy 7 - Cosmo Canyon, Absolute JENOVA, Sending a Dream into the Universe, Great Warrior
Final Fantasy 9 - You're Not Alone, Passive Sorrow, Loss of Me, Bran Bal the Soulless Village
Marvel vs Capcom - End Credits, Chun Li's Theme, Ryu's Theme
Warcraft 2 - Basically every song.
Starcraft 1 - The Terran songs.

I'd love to hear about the songs you guys like so I can expand my special library.

Any bit of music from any of Nolan's Batman trilogy.
    Also agree with Star Trek.
The Elder Scrolls' Skyrim Soundtrack - I have the full physical soundtrack signed by the actual composer, Jeremy Soule, and I'm very proud of that.
Dark Souls' soundtrack - again, I have a physical copy.
    Coraline film soundtrack.
I'm not sure if this counts, but I really like the soundtrack for tv series Dexter.

That's all I can think of for now. :)

Both Alien and Aliens have amazing scores. Plus Wrath of Khan.

As for TV shows I'd have to say Battlestar Galattica.

Good shout for Final Fantasy VII!

Yeah that TDKR theme is pretty awesome. I also like the chanting in that prison scene, gives me chills.

Star Trek seems to always dish out good music :p

I don't watch a lot of TV, but I do like the theme from ST: Voyager.

Seeing a you're a Hans Zimmer fan, rhduke, I suggest you get a copy of the Man of Steel soundtrack (I've ordered the limited edition myself). It's very Zimmer of course, but I love his stuff. The Man of Steel film, not so much. :)

There's a film called Triangle that came out back in 2009. It was a psychological thriller starring Melissa George that I just absolutely loved. I wish it had a wide release, but it only played at a few festivals and then went to DVD.

Anyway, the score was eery and beautiful at the same time. It came from a composer named Christian Henson. My two favorite entries are "Lullaby" and "The Driver" which are both just mesmerizing.

Seconding the Star Trek. Enterprising Young Men makes me feel like I can fly.

The Departure by Michael Nyman, from the Gattaca score, always makes me want to cry.

Hans Zimmer is always a yes in my book.

Leaving Hogwarts makes me tear up every time.
